Vanessa Van Buren
Vanessa brings over 15 years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities through both education and community-based programming. Prior to joining 18 Hands, she served as a special education and adaptive physical education teacher in Louisiana public schools, where she developed inclusive, skill-building programs for students across multiple campuses. She also held a leadership role with Special Olympics Louisiana, managing regional programs across 12 school districts and coordinating large-scale events that expanded access and participation for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
As Program Coordinator, Vanessa works closely with participants each day to build skills, confidence, and independence through personalized job coaching, hands-on learning, and guided job exploration. Her approach blends operational expertise with a deep commitment to inclusion, ensuring every individual is supported in preparing for meaningful employment and active participation in the community.
Vanessa’s passion for this work is rooted in years of direct service and advocacy for equitable access. Now based in Colorado, she enjoys exploring the mountains, spending time outdoors, and building meaningful connections in her new community.
